Located in the serene Sakyo Ward of Kyoto, Sakuracat English Cafe is not just a cafe; it’s a delightful experience that combines delicious home-cooked food with a warm, inviting atmosphere. This charming spot at 20-7 Tanaka Shimoyanagicho is a hidden gem that beckons to travelers and locals alike, offering a unique blend of flavors and friendly conversation.

Step inside to feel the cozy embrace of warmth as the engaging owner, Ms. Riko, welcomes you with her friendly smile. The cafe's ambiance exudes a homely charm, making it the perfect place to unwind while savoring a meal. As you settle in, your senses will be tantalized by the irresistible aromas wafting from the kitchen, where every dish is crafted with love and creativity.

Sakuracat’s menu is a testament to home cooking at its finest. One standout dish, as echoed in the sentiments of satisfied customers, is the katsu curry, which is described as both hearty and comforting. Others rave about the curry bread, which perfectly complements the rich flavors of the curry. According to reviewer Meagan Papp, the prices are incredibly reasonable, featuring meals that start at just Y500, making it an exceptional value for such high-quality food.

What truly sets Sakuracat apart is its enchanting ability to connect people through food. The cafe transforms into a “standup bar” at night, offering an array of small plates and cheap beer, inviting guests to gather and socialize. This serves as a wonderful opportunity to make new friends over shared plates of delicious food while enjoying the easy-going vibe. Customer Michael Chodrow encapsulates this beautifully by describing the cooking as “wonderfully creative and always delicious,” a sentiment that reflects the care and passion that goes into every meal prepared by Riko.

Furthermore, the cafe caters to both locals and international travelers with ease, thanks to Riko's proficiency in English. Reviewer 篠原聖護 highlights this, noting that foreign visitors can enjoy the home-cooked food without worry, making it a truly inclusive dining experience. Whether you’re after local stories or just a savory bite to eat, the warmth of the cafe and its owner will leave you feeling at home.

Sakuracat English Cafe is not just a place to eat; it’s an immersive experience that blends culinary delight with cultural warmth. It’s a must-visit spot where each visit feels like a cherished moment shared with family and friends. So the next time you find yourself wandering through Kyoto, make sure to stop by and indulge in a comforting meal that resonates with the heart of home cooking.

Love the homey atmosphere and delicious food prepared by Riko-san, a really great bargain for Y500 !!! Open for lunch from 12- 2. She also runs a "stand-up bar" at night, which has more great food and cheap beer !!! Will definitely go back.
